A person does not have to hit rock bottom in order to get help with drug addiction in Florida. Addiction is a process and an individual should seek help at any point if substance abuse has become a problem.
What are the Stages of Addiction?
1. Recreational Stage
During this time, a person may be aware of their behavior in using drugs, but believes there are “safe” amounts to use and moderates usage regularly. At this point, drugs have not overtaken responsibilities or personal goals.
2. Moderation Stage
Since their start of using drugs, a person now partakes in using regularly. Yet, he or she is still aware of the effects the behavior might have.
3. Habitual Stage
Using drugs has become more conditioned in the person. Instead of a mere desire to use, it becomes second nature. Use is frequent and almost a way of life. Additionally, emotions about using are altered. The person is much less aware of their habits, with denial and sometimes regret being common.
4. Compulsory Stage
Using is no longer a desire, it is now a compulsion. Although the addict may argues with themselves about using, they still feel like they have no choice. More than just a conditioned psychological response to drugs, chemical dependency is now present.
5. Addictive Stage
There are big differences emotionally in the addictive stage for a person struggling with drugs. At this point, a person might simply accept that they are an addict. However, they will commonly doubt that they are able to treated for addiction.
